Bateau Sur L’eau

As part of our transport theme, one of our favourite songs is ‘bateau sur l’eau’ – boat on the water.

There are a few versions of the song, as usual we have added a #MakingLanguagesFun twist to it and we have modified the end of the song. We shout “tombez!” which means “fall” and we all fall, ‘splash’ into ‘la rivière’ – the river.

It’s also great bath time song and all of our children and families love it.

Sit your child on your knee and ‘row’ your boat until you fall ‘splash’ in the ‘la rivière’

You could also say ‘vite’ [veet] – which means ‘quick or fast’ to reinforce every day commands whilst injecting our motto of #MakingLanguagesFun into your game!

A song for learning transport & counting to 20

We just love it when we find pedagogic material which reinforces more than one theme at a time! Language learning is all about reinforcement.

In our sessions children initially learn to count from 1-10, but we offer progression through out our classes and reinforce and build upon important vocabulary. We always enrich learning by enhancing their vocabulary and taking them to the next level. We often find really young children who are able to count really well in French. Check out some of our video clips of our the videos on our social media sites that many of our parents have kindly shared with us!

Did you know that it is highly important that your child can count effectively to 20 in French as numbers are quite different once they go above 69 – soixante-neuf [swass-ante-neuf]. The next number literally translates as sixty-ten, soixante-dix [swassante-deess] and this is how you say seventy in French! It is followed by sixty-eleven,ie 71, soixante-onze [swassante-onz], then sixty-twelve ie 72, soixante-douze [swassante-dooz] and so on until you reach sixty-nineteen ie 79, soixante-dix-neuf [swassante dees neuf]!

Les roues de l’autobus – The wheels on the bus

Here’s another great song that backs up our transport theme. We just love the way this video clip includes real children and animation, our Petits Poussins love watching this too. Check out the vocabulary below and practice doing the actions with your child. You could even make your own cardboard bus or choose toys from around the house that have word associated with the song to give your child a more visual experience. Next time you are in the car or if you are taking a bus trip point out the part of the car that are associated with song.

At Petits Poussins everything we do is interactive and upholds our motto of ‘Making Languages Fun!’ Think back to when you were at school or any time you had to learn something, a little bit of fun or a lot (in our case) injected into your learning experience changes how you learn and retain what you have been taught. Welcome Back to the New Term with a Transport Video Clip

Bonjour! Our mums and toddler and private tuition sessions start again tomorrow at St Paul’s Parrish Church. We are looking forward to seeing you all for more ‘Making Languages Fun’ sessions. It’s a great way for all the family to learn and encourage their little ones to speak another language from a young age.

Les transports is our theme for the half term and we will be posting more resources that will help you to expose your child to language learning outwith our classes. Voulez-vous du vin? Pas de tire-bouchon?……. Have you ever wondered how to say cork screw in French? Well maybe you don’t really need to know that it’s ‘un tire-bouchon’ [uhn teer boosh-ohn]…watch the clip and maybe we will rename it ‘une tape-chaussure!’ You can also call it ‘un ouvre bouteille’ [oov-reuh boot-ay] which is more like a bottle opener.

The Petits Poussins love to hide and so does Pocoyo!

Sébastien, our mascot monkey, often likes to play the game cache-cache with the Petits Poussins as we practice our counting and verbs. Chercher [shershay] is the verb ‘to look for’ in French and Trouver [troovay] is the verb ‘to find’. We often ask the children ‘on va chercher Sébastien?’ [ohn va shershay Sébastien]- are we going to go and look for Sébastien?

When we find him we shout coucou [coo-coo] – hiya/peek-a-boo

We just love the verb cacher [cashay]. Say it to you child and see what they do!

We use it often in the sessions with its variants…

How do we say “it’s sunny” in French?

I don’t know about you, but it’s lovely to see the sunshine en Angleterre today…So how do we say “it’s sunny” in French? There are two ways…

“il y a du soleil”, [eel ee ya deuw sol-ay] which literally means there is some sun, ie ‘it’s sunny”

“il fait beau” [eel fay bo] which means “it’s lovely weather”

It’s always a pleasure to share a special moment whilst learning languages…

We had a great session in Little Diamonds today and look what they have to educate their Petits Poussins! Beaucoup de Petits Poussins! We always use visual stimuli in our teaching, it made my day to be able to show the children real Petits Poussins!
